more info James Pants Welcome Stones Throw * Top 200 & RPM *
Imagine that Beck had a little brother who copped his beats, mixed them up and threw a rave-up at your local singles-only bingo night, and you’ve more or less got James Pants.  It’s part krautrock, part disco, part head-nod hip hop, and it’s an immediately fresh take on Stones Throw crate-digging beatmentalism.  Praised by Busy P, XLR8R, Peanut Butter Wolf and Urb Magazine, James Pants is looking to turn heads and move asses.  And damn it if he doesn’t do both with style for miles.  FCC CLEAN. Start with 2, 3, 4, 5, 7.

Styrofoam (A.K.A. Arne Van Petegem) has dropped an album with one foot in indie rock and the other in delicate IDM soundscapes, brandishing simple pop hooks and a slew of guests to flesh out his most polished album to date.  ‘A Thousand Words’ is Styrofoam’s first LP for Nettwerk after establishing himself on Morr Music, garnering comparisons to labelmates the Notwist and Lali Puna.  The album washes Syrofoam’s past lo-fi efforts in an FM-friendly sheen, highlighting Petegem’s formidable vocal talents.  Fans of the Postal Service take note.  Start with 1, 2, 4, 6.

more info Walter Meego Voyager Almost Gold * Top 200 & RPM *
Originally from Chicago, Illinois, but now residents of Los Angeles, CA, Colin Yarck and Justin Sconza are the indie-electronic act Walter Meego, who match the 70s synth glam of MGMT with the 80s disco-rock of labelmate Calvin Harris. The results? An album that's both infectious and glorious. Finally dropping their debut LP on Almost Gold, Walter Meego’s Voyager is the soundtrack to a raging space-themed dance party. For fans of Ssion and Flosstradamus, rock out to tracks 1, 3, 4, 7. All CLEAN.

more info Kail True Hollywood Squares Alpha Pup * Hip Hop *
Every now and again, a rap record comes along that is confident, hungry, quotable and truly immersive. Think De La Soul's classic 3 Feet High & Rising. On Big Dada in the UK and Alpha Pup in the states, LA rapper Kail has a personality that leaps from the speakers with every bar, his character rap will have the toughest listener collapse in the deepest belly-laughs, and essentially has that extra something that screams "star." True Hollywood Squares is a modern  classic, the kind of record you play to people who don't like hip-hop just to watch them convert. This is exactly the kind of rapper who makes disciples. *DIGITAL CLEAN VERSION* Bump 3, 6, 9,5.

GOING FOR ADDS 05/26 to 05/27

more info Spiritualized Songs in A & E Fontana International / Spaceman Records * Top 200 *
Even calling the arrival of a new Spiritualized record an "event" is a huge understatement. Jason Spaceman is back with his sixth studio outing (the first in over 5 years!) under the Spiritualized banner, which slowly took shape over years--keeping the flow of previous efforts, while refusing to hide behind any significant studio effects this time around. In fact, in carrying along the true ethos of his Spacemen 3 roots, we finally see his strongest marrying of minimalist rock arrangements and orchestral embellishments, all while delivering his most personal work to date. All clean. Hold These Close: 5, 4, 11,12,9.

more info Ladytron Velocifero Nettwerk * Top 200 & RPM *
Ladytron’s 4th album Velocifero takes their signature--and totally mystical--electronic dance sound to new heights and influences such as Echo & the Bunnymen and 60s girl fronted synth bands for another futuristic journey. "Burning Up” revisits their roots on 604 that finds them at the top of their game, and the other Velocifero gems were recorded in Paris, with the band handling production duties and some collaboration with Ed Banger cohort Vicarious Bliss (Justice, DJ Mehdi). Originally from Liverpool, the foursome have displayed their awesome talents with remixes of Gang of Four, Simian, Blondie, and more. All Clean. We dig 1, 2, 5, 6, 9, 10. All clean.

more info Odd Nosdam Pretty Swell Explode Anticon * Top 200 & RPM *
Again showing his prowess for the beat-heavy soundscape, David Mason (AKA Odd Nosdam) collects his alternate studio versions and remixes of fellow Anticon artists on this new release. After the experimentation of Level Live Wires and two pastiche-driven mixtapes released on anticon.com, Nosdam uses his mixing board talents to create junkyard electronic pieces out of his own tracks and those of Thee More Shallows, Alias and Tarsier and Boards of Canada. It’s a reminder of Nosdam’s skills as a producer, musician and expert remixer, with beautiful melodies emerging from his adventurous rearrangements. Start with 1, 2, 3, 6, 14

04/07/2008 COLIN MELOY KICKS OFF SPRING SOLO TOUR TONIGHT!

Colin Meloy, lead singer/songwriter for The Decemberists, will embark on a solo tour of the United States on April 7th. Pre-sale tickets will be available beginning today at Noon EST at http://www.colinmeloy.tickets.musictoday.com. Singer-songwriter Laura Gibson will be the supporting act.

The tour coincides with the release of his debut solo album, Colin Meloy Sings Live! – due out April 8th on Kill Rock Stars. Available in both CD and double-gatefold LP configurations, Colin Meloy Sings Live! is a 14-song collection documenting his 2006 solo acoustic tour. The career-spanning set opens with “Devil’s Elbow,” a song that harkens back to Meloy’s first band, Tarkio, and closes with the rarity “Bandit Queen,” from The Decemberists’ 2006 EP, Picaresqueties. Along the way, Meloy performs material from The Decemberists’ three full-length Kill Rock Stars albums, debuts two new compositions (“Dracula’s Daughter” and “Wonder”) and entertains the audience with banter, at one point even coaxing them into a campfire singalong. Meloy weaves bits of songs by The Smiths, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd and REM into the proceedings and performs the traditional folk song “Barbara Allen” in a style reminiscent of Shirley Collins, the venerable British folk singer he paid homage to with the 2006 EP Colin Meloy Sings Shirley Collins. That EP – like its predecessor, 2005’s Colin Meloy Sings Morrissey – was sold only at his solo shows and has since become a collector’s item. And in that tradition, a new covers EP will be available on the upcoming tour: Colin Meloy Sings Sam Cooke, a collection of five Cooke songs, intimately arranged and performed by Colin, with Laura Gibson singing harmonies throughout.

Meloy wrapped up a short run of dates last night in the Pacific Northwest with The Decemberists. The itinerary for his solo tour is as follows:

Innovative West Coast electronic wizard seamlessly blends rave, R&B, hip-hop, electro, and acoustics into his most dance-friendly live set yet. "Live at Low End Theory" Out January 22nd on Alpha Pup Records.

One of L.A.'s most daring producers, Daedelus weaves together a true "love-sound" that falls between honeyed melodies and avant-electronics He chops and splices disparate acoustic sources into incredible works of staggering resonance. Contrasting IDM styled cut-ups with childlike arrangements from the 30s and 40s, he has refined a style that has no imitators. Exactly the kind of music you'd expect from a scarily well-connected hip hop nut who happens to dress in Edwardian clothing and names himself after an Ancient Greek Legend.

The Daedelus live show, which utilizes a custom-built trigger device called the Monome, has amazed audiences across the world, and secured his reputation as one of the most exciting live artists in electronic music.
