His most accessible work yet, ‘Love To Make Music To’ finds Daedelus (AKA Alfred Darlington) loosening his Victorian ascot and getting down with the kids, with tracks heavily influenced by his teen experiences with UK rave culture. The album mixes Daedelus’ daring use of cut-n-paste samples with feel-good synth melodies and 90’s-inflected arrangements. Featuring guest spots from Michael Johnson, N’fa, Paperboy and Laura Darling of the Long Lost Institute, this album is as catchy as it is innovative, and one of Daedelus’ best LPs yet! We like 3-6, 8, 11. FCC on #2.

The project of art student Brandon Bethancourt, 'Dance Party In the Balkans" finds him teaming up with Zach Condon of Beirut and fleshing out songs he wrote in a cabin on the south coast of Alaska. Matching the Eastern European melodicism of Beirut and Gogol Bordello with sweet synth-pop akin to Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, "Dance Party in the Balkans" lives up to its name with drum machines matching romantic melody. They opened for Beirut in 2007, but it won't be long before they're headlining and capturing hearts with their own yearning pop gems. FCC CLEAN. Start with 1, 6, 8.

The second compilation of Solos Records artists, this disc shows the effort of a burgeoning electronic scene to push beyond their humble beginnings as a music co-op and show the world at large the diverse artists they've cultivated since 2003.  On this, the label's 2nd compilation, the diverse sound of this Bay Area collective shows their respective artistic growth, from Bookworm's sample-based beats to CB Radio's synth-disco. It's a crew that'll be turning heads and getting noticed, so check these kids out now!  For fans of Madlib, Daly City and Girl Talk...yeah, it's that diverse.  Start with 2, 3, 4, 5, 14.  FCC on 13.

"The Geeks Were Right" is from the Faint's first album in four years--Fasiinatiion --set for release on August 5th through their own, newly-formed label, blank.wav. Fasciinatiion, The Faint's fifth album, is the first in the band's ten-year history to be written, recorded, produced, art directed and released entirely on their own. The band will embark on a 30 date N. American tour on July 27th.

Windmill is 28 year old Matthew Thomas Dillon, emerging as one of the UK’s best singer-songwriters with his early 70s melancholia and twisted folk-pop reminiscent of early Why? and the Flaming Lips. “Plastic Pre-Flight Seats” and “Asthmatic” provide the driving peaks of the album, adding texture with epic choir parts chiming in. The piano-driven melodies, guilt-ridden vocals, and bombastic orchestration provide for an impressive album, one that reminds the Independent of “Mercury Rev making a break up album.” FCC 1, 9. We dig on 5, 3, 7, 11, 1.

* HIp Hop *

One of Canada’s hardest-working DJ-producers, Factor has made beats for the likes of the Shapeshifters, Living Legends and Swollen Members as well as toured as the DJ for Busdriver and Subtitle. Now he's dropping a solo outing for Fake Four Inc. that's driven equally by pop songwriting as it is by sonic pastiche, resulting in psychedelic sample-based hip hop that sounds like 60's FM radio chopped up by DJ Shadow. Check the guest spots by Awol One, Myka 9 and Kirby Dominant, who try to keep up with Factor’s ambitious productions. Start with 3, 4, 8, 9, 11.

Sébastien Tellier Teams Up Sexuality and Sportswear!

Record Makers set to release Sébastien Tellier's Sexuality in North America, available exclusively at American Apparel stores nationwide!

MP3: http://terrorbird.alphapupserver.com/music/04SexualSportswear(Donovan%20remix)1.mp3

Record Makers is proud to announce an agreement has been reached with American Apparel, which will make Sexuality available at all American Apparel locations throughout North America in an exclusive pre-release beginning July 22nd (full release to follow in October). This is the first time in the history of the Los Angeles based clothier that music will be sold at store level, whilst marking the first foray of the Parisian indie-label Record Makers (founded in 2000 by Marc Teissier du Cros and Stéphane Elfassi) into the world of clothing retail.

This unique collaboration began with a special pre-release of the album at the retailer's German locations, before expanding to the rest of Europe and now North America. Sexuality will be available on CD and vinyl LP formats alongside the new single Divine (7" and 12" versions) in store and online at www.americanapparel.net. To promote Sexual Sportswear, the album's first single, American Apparel created two exclusive garments - the SexualiT and SexualiTank - which will be in stores for a limited time only.

Sebastien Tellier, essential music pioneer, and the unique voice of modern French electronic-edged pop, returns with a seminal new studio album Sexuality. Produced by Guy Manuel De Homem-Christo - astonishingly the first full artist project that he has produced outside of Daft Punk - this album is Tellier's musical statement of intent for lovemaking:
emotional, hypnotic and oozing with sensuality, a perfect fit for American Apparel.

Viva Radio, American Apparel's in-house radio station, will be showcasing Sebastien Tellier content throughout, programming tracks for in-store play and offering album preview streams online. In addition, Sebastien will be contributing select content for the Viva Radio airwaves in-store and online.

Sexuality and the accompanying singles, Sexual Sportswear and Divine, have been released already in Europe receiving critical acclaim from the likes of NME, The Times, The Observer, Mixmag, Pitchfork and VICE Magazine. Divine also made history as the first English-language song in 55 years to represent France at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008.

04/07/2008 COLIN MELOY KICKS OFF SPRING SOLO TOUR TONIGHT!

Colin Meloy, lead singer/songwriter for The Decemberists, will embark on a solo tour of the United States on April 7th. Pre-sale tickets will be available beginning today at Noon EST at http://www.colinmeloy.tickets.musictoday.com. Singer-songwriter Laura Gibson will be the supporting act.

The tour coincides with the release of his debut solo album, Colin Meloy Sings Live! – due out April 8th on Kill Rock Stars. Available in both CD and double-gatefold LP configurations, Colin Meloy Sings Live! is a 14-song collection documenting his 2006 solo acoustic tour. The career-spanning set opens with “Devil’s Elbow,” a song that harkens back to Meloy’s first band, Tarkio, and closes with the rarity “Bandit Queen,” from The Decemberists’ 2006 EP, Picaresqueties. Along the way, Meloy performs material from The Decemberists’ three full-length Kill Rock Stars albums, debuts two new compositions (“Dracula’s Daughter” and “Wonder”) and entertains the audience with banter, at one point even coaxing them into a campfire singalong. Meloy weaves bits of songs by The Smiths, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd and REM into the proceedings and performs the traditional folk song “Barbara Allen” in a style reminiscent of Shirley Collins, the venerable British folk singer he paid homage to with the 2006 EP Colin Meloy Sings Shirley Collins. That EP – like its predecessor, 2005’s Colin Meloy Sings Morrissey – was sold only at his solo shows and has since become a collector’s item. And in that tradition, a new covers EP will be available on the upcoming tour: Colin Meloy Sings Sam Cooke, a collection of five Cooke songs, intimately arranged and performed by Colin, with Laura Gibson singing harmonies throughout.

Meloy wrapped up a short run of dates last night in the Pacific Northwest with The Decemberists. The itinerary for his solo tour is as follows:
