1. Daly City Records. Give us some background on the label, who's involved with the daily operation, and how it all started.

Daly City Records began shortly after I moved back to the Bay Area from Southern California a few years ago. I felt a lot of inspiration from Daly City's diverse culture and wanted to start a label that reflected that. I wanted it to be a meeting place for people of different backgrounds and experiences to explore new ideas and thoughts on music and art, with a big influence on cultural diversity. I usually handle most of the operations, but when it gets busy I have the assistance of my lovely friends and label-mates who contribute a great deal, in terms of ideas, as well as muscle.

2. There's something distinctly Bay Area about what you guys do. Talk a little bit about the Bay Area scene and how Daly City Artists fit into it. How do you make a record label work with so many diverse styles of music?

I feel like the Bay Area has always been the black sheep of the US metropolises. All the music that comes out of here seems to be not so clear-cut. The Hip Hop is not as gangster and blinged out as The South, NY, of LA (I know some may disagree), The Rock has big stains of dance and avant-garde influences, and the Electronic music (minus the pure nrg dance clubs) is more weird and punk-rock the other parts of the country. I think Daly City Records fits nicely into this environment, as people from all walks of life, tend to cross rather then segregate from each other. The Bay Area is kind of like going traveling all the time and finding new things to change your perspective. But you don't really have to go anywhere. It's all just right here, outside your door, minutes away.

3. Speaking of, Mochipet runs the gamut from dancefloor techno, to crazy ass breakcore, to hip hop fused beats when you perform with Mike Boo. Where do you draw from for each style, and how should new fans approach a Mochipet record?

New fans, or all fans in fact, should always approach every Mochipet record with a clean slate. I try to make the experience like a new birth every time, and not rest on my laurels too much. I do not want to be one of those artists that are known for that "one-song" or that "one-sound." It's not that I intentionally try to make a: techno, hip-hop, or breakcore record. It's more about trying something new, and seeing what happens!

4. Daly City recently started turning heads at college radio with a string of releases. Do you have a background in radio? Either way, how do you feel that radio plays a role in the perception of Daly City?

In terms of background, I did use to DJ at an all Jazz Station, KCSM, in San Mateo and I think college radio is one of the last avenues for real MUSIC LOVERS. Most, if not all, of the DJs have been doing shows for years with no monetary reward. They simply just love music and that's why I think Daly City has been popular with College radio. Our main goal is to spread new and interesting music and I think they can appreciate that. No bull and no filler, just good tunes.

5. You just got back from a massive tour of Europe, you played Winter Music Conference, and Daly City Records was recently featured in SF Weekly. Sounds like you're making the rounds. What else do you have in store for 2007 and beyond?

It's been a good starting year, but I really have no idea what's coming up. We honestly didn't plan any of these things, they just kind of happened. So I'm really excited to see what comes next. In terms of traveling I am suppose to go to Turkey Austria in the Fall, which is nice because I have never been. For releases, we have slew of great stuff coming out: The Bad Hand/Mochipet – "Do geese see god" (split 7"), PU22l3 – "Falling to Pieces" (Destined to make IDM cool again), Dopestyles123 – "The little Happy" (Neued out hip-hop feat. Casual + Optio from Hieroglyphics, Human Beings, and more), Bloodysnowman – "Bloodybuddies" (a remix album with Xiu Xiu, Lesser, Exillion, Heartworm, and who knows who else..). I also did a slew of remixes you can probably find trickled down somewhere. Most recent of those was for Spank Rock's Scion and Fabric Dead Mix CDs.

6. Terrorbird and Daly City are joining forces yet again in July for a co-sponsored Terrorbird One Year Anniversary/Daly City Record Release Party. What's going down there?

I don't know what will happen exactly but I know that anytime Daly City and Terrorbird joins forces there is a Mega-Marshmallow-Super-Nova of Uncontainable Fun! I'm sure this time it will be even better then previous, as both teams have been in training all year long for this fabulous event. I've heard Boom Bip and Daedelus will be battling in synchronized swimming. While Bookrate DJs and Mochipet will square off in Underwater Baseketball Wrestling? I don't know, you'll just have to tune in 7/28 at 111 Minna to find out.

7. Last but not least----Strawberries, Bacon, etc. What's with the food motif?

What is there to say? Strawberries, Bacon.. you either like one or both, or neither. But whatever the case, when you put them together you get a mouthwatering sensation that's comparable to none. It's the yin of yang of food. It's savory and sweet fruity and meaty, red and golden brown, greasy and juicy, what more needs to be said? And Daly
City did it first.. don't front!
