DARC MIND
(anticon)

We're floored it's happening, but it's true. The legacy of Darc Mind that was banished to the annals of hip hop history with their never released Loud/RCA Records masterpiece 'Symptomatic of a Greater Ill' was forever changed with Anticon finally put the record on shelves after almost 10 years. Darc Mind reunites for a live KEXP session at CMJ, as well as this one and only performance at CMJ. Don't miss it!

CADENCE WEAPON
(Upper Class)

We've collectively been obsessed with Cadence since he blew our minds opening for Lady Sovereign last fall in Toronto, and boy has he come a long way since, making waves this past year touring with The Islands, Why?, and Busdriver. Come see what the press has been raving about, and some of the most incredible hip hop we've heard in years by a legend-already-in-the-making.

MACROMANTICS
(Kill Rock Stars)

Besides the fact that January 2007 marks the release of Kill Rock Stars' first ever hip hop record from Macromantics, let that not detract from the fact that Macromantics is an insanely talented Australian female emcee who channels everyone from Kathleen Hannah and Patti Smith to Nas and Rakim in her music, with Sage Francis making a guest spot on her forthcoming album as well. Set to break out in 2007, be there so you can say you were!!!

FORGET CASSETTES
(Theory 8)

Nashville's Forget Cassettes have developed quite the following over the years, branding their names in audience's minds with their blistering live show and their now famed tour opening for ... And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead. While they are often compared to Sleater Kinney or Jawbox, their complex compositions fluctuate intensely from quiet to loud and fast to slow as demonstrated on their best album to date, 'Salt'.

THE FUCKING OCEAN
(Double Negative)

Now that Terrorbird is a Bay Area operation, we couldn't me more excited to have San Francisco's The Fucking Ocean on board and seriously, you'll be glad you got their early because they seriously take the best elements from some incredible bands--Electrelane, The Fall, Erase Errata to name a few--and combine them all to make something completely their own, never holding back. Their amazing debut release 'Le Main Rouge' hits the world in November 2006.

BOOGIE BOARDER / SNAKES SAY HISSS!
(Famous Class)

Hands down, upstate New York's Famous Class Records is one of our favorite new labels with their early Troubleman like sensibilities in tow, and here are two reasons why. Snakes Say Hisss! turns 80's pop on it's head with heavy synths, dancy beats, and spazzed out live shows, while Boogie Boarder and it's completely original mix of Lightning Bolt-esque instrumental prowess coupled with poppy, surf like melodies is unlike anything we've heard. The best reason ever to get to a party early!

--DJs UPSTAIRS--

PATRICK RUSSELL (The Fresh Corporation) AND DEREK PLASLAIKO (Spectral Sound)

Straight from Detroit, Ghostly sister label Spectral Sound's Derek Plaslaiko (who was recently just named "Best Techno Party DJ" in the Village Voice's Best of NYC 2006) brings exports Fresh Corporation partner Patrick Russell to dive into the realm of electronic music where both the body and the mind are active. Lush techno, Detriot classics, dancefloor bangers, expect the best DJ tag set at CMJ. Period.

MACHINEDRUM
(Normrex, Merck)

Brooklyn by way of Florida, MachineDrum and his unique brand of glitched out beats singled handedly helped define Miami's Merck Records to the rest of the world, with his jaw dropping electronica-fed-through-a-hip-hop-shredder sound reaching new heights with his 'Bidnezz' full length. With a recent double cd on Merck of remixes and remixers, his much anticipated forthcoming album 3 years in the making now and we can't wait to see where he takes it next.

EGG FOO YOUNG
(Turntable Lab)

NYC's Egg Foo Young already has some impressive credits under his belt, with releases on Touchin' Bass and Money Studies, and co-producing the standout "Way More" on Diplo's 'Florida' album for Big Dada. In fact, he's made such a name for himself dropping bombs on the decks that URB Magazine even featured him as a part of their Next 100 this year. Should be a killer!

BOOK RATE DJS: LAZY BROW & TIN CUP
(Terrorbird)

While Tin Cup and Lazy Brow masquerade as radio promoters during the day, their summer sessions at a will-continued-to-be-unnamed Los Angeles downtown speakeasy, as well as Party Scammers, art gallery, and other events, saw them bringing their no-holds-barred blend uptempo party music of all kids from electro to disco to techno to bangers to whatever to the masses, and now their new home in the Bay is next. Come say hi :)

D. FISH
(Mush)

The mysterious resident D.Fish opens the festivities with and ever-reliable grab bag of who-knows-what, but that's exactly how we like it. Always unpredictable, always satisfying, D.Fish reps the Mush Records crew in style.
