Los Angeles art-pop outfit Eagle and Talon bestow the In Manila EP upon us this week (on BI/AKKA Records). To sweeten the deal even more Alice and Kim Talon launch their Ambient Karaoke project which features some of their favorite LA musicians doing their own rendition of the track "I Want Everything". With such a diverse group of acts, there are sure to be quite a few interesting (karaoke style) interpretations with contributions from Obi Best, Dorian Wood, Moses Campbell, and much more. Check it out the renditions HERE. You can also sample the contributor's own tunes in Eagle and Talon's I Want Music mixtape.

Make sure to check out their new video with Reggie Watts, who also contributes guest vocals and some rubbery bass grooves to the In Manila EP. Their group's new video "For The Bond" features Kim and Alice Talon as Watts plays master puppeteer.

Also in case you missed it check out their recent video for "In Manila" directed by experimental film maker/animator JC Wegman (The Simpsons) and it stars the iconic southern belle Benji Hughes as the possessed love interest.  It's Eagle and Talon's dream world turned inside out & features the girls in their first performance as stars at the Los Angeles Rifle Club.

"There's the same alt sweetness - a somehow optimistic and eerie style that keeps you dancing in your underpants. In Manila brings new riffs an crazy melodies - it's fresh and delicious" - BUST

"artlessly jagged post-punk that's got fun in it even when it's being serious." - Village Voice

"you'll be hooked after one song" - USA TODAY

"The hollow, tinny notes of a child's Casio keyboard swirl around choppy guitar licks and no-nonsense drumbeats. Kim's voice, sweet and strong, braves the rapids of this melodic current with powerful self-assurance." - LA Times

EAGLE AND TALON

Forging a sound that makes you wonder whether you’re being pet by a kitten or mauled by a lynx,  LA-based art/rock girl duo Eagle and Talon have been confusing people since their formation. Splicing angular guitars and intricate rhythms with Casio and scraps of musical theater, their first record Thracian was praised as an intelligent collection of “wild, wonky post-punk" (Washington Post), "a perfect antidote to all the magisterial synth irony that’s been all the rage" (Elle). With their forthcoming offering, In Manila, the ladies incorporate dancier pop elements into their repertoire, but their surrealist sensibilities and scrappy DIY aesthetic remain fully intact.

Clocking in at just under 14 minutes, In Manila covers a lot of new ground for the duo.  The exotic ride begins with the dreamy aquatic organ instrumental "I Want Everything." Title track "In Manila" crashes in on the reverie with a propulsive beat, packing infectious hooks into a quasi-Caribbean party. "Ruen Pair" envisions the duo as Enya on Halloween, while "Modified My Knife" brings back their art-damaged guitar sound.  The EP closes with "For The Bond," a jazz-disco anthem.

Eagle and Talon is Kim and Alice Talon, with a guest turn on the new EP by comedian/musician Reggie Watts (Conan O'Brien) on bass and vocals. Since the band's inception, they've made their mark sharing stages with The Happy Hollows, Efterklang, Bodies of Water, Clues, The Mae Shi and toured throughout the US and Europe. From Winnipeg and Cleveland, respectively, the two met in LA and played their first show together on Valentine's Day.  It's only fitting that it will be released on BI/AKKA RECORDS in the month of stuffed bears & roses- February 22nd in conjunction with the re-release of Thracian in Europe by German imprint The Company With the Golden Arm.
