Infectious hooks. Insightful rhymes. A refreshing take on Hip-Hop. Blending classic soul, modern beats, and futuristic funk, Yung Mars has created and refined a sound that is truly original. His music has more head and more heart than your average radio rap. It speaks to people. It's like getting an inside look into the young lyricist's journal'spinning with raw social commentary, and self-awareness that feels remarkably honest.

Yung Mars has his hand in every stage of the creative process, from beat making and arranging, to mixing and mastering. Favoring live instrumentation to sample-based music, he plays guitar, bass, and keys on many of his tracks. A penchant for clever word play and luscious harmonized choruses, Mars' songs are catchy without being cliché. Â

His latest project, 'Santa Cruz or Bust' was initially released for free as a, "Mixtape style" album, containing a mix of original and mashed up material. This re-released 100% radio friendly version consists of the eight original tracks from the record, plus two brand new songs. Inspired by the kickback lifestyle of the Santa Cruz scene, the album takes the listener on an audio vacation down the California coast. It was co-mixed, and mastered by Mark Pistel, the head engineer at Room 5 studios. There he has recorded and produced for such artists as: Michael Franti & Spearhead, Azeem, MC Rai, MeatBeatManifesto-

Over 20 artists collaborated on this album, from rappers and singers, to horn players and string sections. DJ Teeko (41Funk ) makes an appearance on 'Rollercoasters', scratching a melodic solo with a Controller 1 turntable (a turntable capable of changing melodic intervals). Super Producer B.Bravo (Frite Nite) made the upbeat, swinging track for the opening song 'Take a Ride'. Ivan Ives (formerly featured myspace artist) gets two verses on the futuristic soul cut 'Pulled Plugs'. Mars even teamed up with next-level Jazz/Hip-Hop band 'Spaceheater' for the horn heavy lLtin-funk track 'Stop Running'.

In August of 2007 Yung Mars' self-titled debut reached #3 on the CMJ Hip Hop Charts. This heavy college airplay was followed up with regular shows in San Francisco, and up and down the coast. The front man for a tasty 7-piece hip-hop band aptly named 'The Yung Mars Project', he quickly established himself in his local scene, often popping up as a featured rapper for other hip-hop and funk bands. He was also the official route entertainment for AIDS WALK SF, NY, and LA 2008.
