'If you see me in a picture with a gun, it's a satirical picture of the environment in which I grew up. All this is reflected upon us because of a system which I wish not to be a part of. I want to spread a message through my music and believe wisdom and understanding cannot be bought or sold.' - Terry Lynn
The environment in which Terry Lynn grew up is Waterhouse, an impoverished neighborhood of Kingston, Jamaica. Her sound is as penetrating as her message, both unrelenting in their break from the status quo, and demand for change. Daft Punk meets Marley meets Malcom X - Terry's revolution remains one of optimisim while depicted with powerful imagery uncovering the serious and often dark picture of corruption, violence, and poverty that makes up day to day life on the 'other' side of Jamaica.

Her depth of songwriting, her choice of subject matter and her ability to pierce through to the heart of the social issues surrounding her and the militant angle she chose to take, placed her starkly outside the mold of the current JA dancehall scene.

It was Terry's audacity and fearlessness to speak out against the system and call out police and politicians alike that drew the attention of Phred of Phree music. After a chance meeting outside a Waterhouse studio Phred and Terry began to collaborate

"The legendary Coxsone Dodd referred to Terry as the 'real voice of the street' with advice to take time to ensure such a message is heard anew. A queen is never crowned at home, and joining the sonic revolution understood and led by Last Gang is such a natural fit for Terry" says Phred founder, Russell Hergert.

Phred insisted on building an entire concept that went against the grain of anything coming out of Jamaica. None of the production was done in Jamaica, further distancing Terry from the constraints of the hook driven subject matter favored by the Jamaican studios.

As they spent hours on the phone writing lyrics, Terry and Phred both grew and developed together, their two different perspectives making it easy for them to find a common ground. Phred pushing and encouraging Terry to make her lyrics more powerful and write about what was happening right outside her window all the while sending her new sounds to write to.

The sound is distinctive, hard, and impassioned unlike anything ever heard from the sunny shores of this Carribean hotspot.
