Following last year's 'Ghetto Sci-Fi', Ras G drops the adequately-named 'Brotha From Anotha Planet' on Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder imprint alongside LA beat killers Alpha Pup. Riding on recent praise from the likes of the BBC's Mary-Anne Hobbs, Ras G continues on what has become the dominant sound of LA's underground, with dark, lurching samples riding underneath skittering boom-bap. As dark and disorienting as it is deeply funky, 'Brotha From Anotha Planet' is sure to turn heads in 2009.

Past praise:

"Superb EP of moody, abstract downtempo beats. Ras G, who has previously collaborated with Black Monk, is another up and coming LA producer. His sound can be favorably compared to Ammon Contact, KanKick and Madlib. Checkout the opener "One Fine Morning(1)," an abstract jazz piece that still manages to incite head bobbing.
"Gravity(2)" reminds me of Dilla in all the best ways: super-warm bass, wonderfully minimal, and complete. The EP is basically worth it for this track alone. After cleansing our palettes with the abstract stuff, Ras starts the b-side with harder beats, checkout the crunchiness of "Jus Feel(3)" and "Tha Message(4)." He closes the EP with more abstract moments, check "Power Of Thought(5)," a gorgeous track that invokes the soul of Dorothy Ashby. 7 tracks. Recommended.

"Los Angeles is home to a lot of fake shit, but it's also home to a thriving community of producers who are out to change the face of beat music. Ras G. is at the forefront. Firmly rooted in Hip Hop but set to take it to the next level where it needs to be... Listen close or you'll miss something."
- DJ TAKE

"Ras G is a very expansive young beatmaker who creates sonic-scapes that play like journeys. This is the first in the Poo-Bah Records 10-inch series that he's curating. Moody and dark, uplifting and light with fragmented samples layered, Ras G is fusing his many influences into a mix that will turn your head nod into a trance."
